Buffy Spin-Offs that I want to see

Written by Rubee Mellon

Buffy the Vampire Slayer is one of my favourite series of all time, and it already has one successful spin off, Angel, and one failed spin off, Buffy: The Animated Series.
Despite the fact that it has been revealed that Joss Whedon is a less than desirable director, I still long for more Buffy spin-off series, as I am not ready for the universe to end. I say spin-offs and not remake, because no one wants a remake. Give people new original characters and leave Buffy to be the queen of the 90s.
So let's discuss the spin off series that I want to see (preferably written and directed by someone who is not a raging secret misogynist).

Prequel Series

Giles prequel series

Several times throughout the series, the Scooby Gang got into shenanigans relating to the dark occult that Giles had experimented with in his youth. I would name this series Ripper, as that was his nickname during that time. Since Giles was usually deliberately vague about his anecdotes of his youth, there is a lot of room to explore new themes and storylines, while referencing the Buffy series for older fans.

Slaying in the 70s

Basically I really want to see more of Nikki Wood, the slayer that was killed by Spike in 1977. But since it is known how that series would end, I would like for there to be a friendship added between Nikki and a new slayer-in-waiting, they are somewhat frenemies due to the friend's jealousy over the fact she is not the slayer. Once Nikki dies, the friend can take over in an epic revenge plot. Plus, with it taking place in the late 1970s, the music and fashion would be interesting to see in this sort of story. This could have a real shot, as a fascination with the 1970s has had a real resurrection on TikTok as of late.

Bridgerton Vampire Slayer?

Okay, so I remember when Buffy destroyed a demon with a bazooka because back when he was formed no weapon could destroy him, and Buffy said the super cool "that was then, this is now" line before blowing him up. What if there was a slayer-centred show that was before all of these fancy weapons were created. I put Bridgerton just because I fancy seeing it take place in the regency period when girls and women were married off young. Would she resist marriage or not? Would she tell her partner or keep it a total secret? See? Practically writes itself.

Sequel Series

Techno-Witches

If anyone remembers Miss Calendar in the early days of Buffy being fond of sharing information about spells and other types of witchcraft in a closed online community, unfortunately the show made the odd decision to incorrectly name this community 'techno-pagans'. I think a current day spin-off of a new-age version of the online witchcraft community could be really interesting. We could even see a few special appearances by everyone's favourite witch, Willow.

A New Vampire Slayer

At the end of season 6 of Buffy, all slayers-in-waiting receive full slayer powers so the burden would not have to fall on one person. This not only allows for a new vampire slayer in a location outside of the US, but an exciting opportunity for several series in different languages for different countries that can all cross over and reference once another. I think this would present as a great opportunity to encourage television productions with strong female leads in a lot of different countries and introduce the world to a lot of up and coming female actors!
