Review of The Shadow Over Innsmouth

By Rebecca Milne

In keeping with a lot of the Lovecraft use of certain tropes or ideas, the story adopts the creatures from an unknown place. The stories which are told through madmen or drunkards. Tales of cults and otherness which could link back to Lovecraft racism as there is a lot of description about human abnormality and difference. The ending is quite confusing as the narrator goes from not wanting to be Innsmouth and feeling quite uncomfortable to the point of needing to escape to finding out about ancestry and then not wanting or being able to leave. The twist is unexpected but not really required.
