Little Nightmares (2017)
Written by CrispGamingTV on Twitch
Little Nightmares is a horror themed puzzle game available
across all gaming platforms. You start your adventure as the hooded hero Six,
wearing your iconic yellow raincoat. Throughout the game you put your brains
and bravery to the test as you explore the unnerving and complex world.
I myself and not a huge horror enthusiast however, Little
Nightmares introduces you into a world where horror is simply a theme and not
the focus of the entire game. The puzzles offer a range of difficulty
throughout the game and encourage you to think outside of the box. The
difficulty of the game was never an issue, however, some areas do take a little
time and thought to overcome. Exploration is also encouraged as it gives you an
opportunity to further understand both the characters you encounter and
developing a deeper insight into the lore and story of the game. Make sure to
look around every corner and open every hatch to dive deeper into the lore and
backstory to this game. I myself played through the game a second time to find
as much as possible to try and understand more about the game as I craved more lore
and additional background to the excellent story.
Regarding the story, it took me around 3 hours to complete
all in one session. The fast-paced nature of the game and the speed in
developing plot points really helps you get lost in the world and wrapped up in
the story behind it. The story will have you constantly questioning and wanting
to learn more about this truly deep and complex game. The story has many emotional
ups and downs and ends in an equally mesmerising finale. Even upon completing
the game, you still want to know more about what you have just played.
Thankfully, through this game’s DLC you are able to play
through the eyes of another character who exists in the same timeline. In total
the DLC took me around 3 hours, of which I completed in 3 separate sessions.
Throughout the DLC you have the opportunity to discover more exciting and new
areas you previously missed and discover new information on the original story
of Six. The DLC also explains many off-screen events throughout the main story
and showcases what else is happening throughout this unnerving world. Upon
completing the DLC, I felt a further level of depth to the game and again it
left me wanting to know more of the surrounding story. The DLC is not necessary
whatsoever to the main story, however, if you enjoyed the main story and want
to learn more about the events and backstory of this game, I would highly recommend
playing it.
Overall, Little Nightmares is a game that allows you to
enjoy at your own pace and is a great gateway into horror gaming. After
completing the game, myself, I almost forgot it was a horror game, and was just
focusing on the puzzles and mainly the story the game offered. If you are a
gaming enthusiast, enjoy either horror or puzzles games and have a spare 3
hours, I guarantee you will not regret it.
